Things I Learned This Month – November

101_0674

  • Workouts are only has good as the effort you put in. Especially Monday morning step classes.
  • Calorie counting is okay every once in a while to make sure I’m not falling back into old bad habits.
  • Amazing Grass does not make for an amazing meal replacement, but it does make for an amazing post-workout snack.

101_0679

  • I need to eat more healthy fats.
  • Honesty is always the best policy.
  • It makes no sense to work in a field you don’t love, when the field you do love is right in front of you
  • I still have a lot to learn.

  • The people I’ve met through blogging are amazing. You have all made my life so much richer. Every hour put into blogging has been worth it.

  • I need to install food photography lighting in my kitchen.
  • Chocolate whey protein powder is not a great addition to baked goods.
  • If I’m not happy, I’m the only person who can fix it. Sometimes the solution is quite simple, other times it takes a little more work.
  • Peanut butter tastes awesome in everything.

  • I will never, ever tire of pitas and carrot sticks for lunch.
  • I thrive on the energy of other people. This is hard to do when I’m not surrounded by other people.
  • Life is very, very long. If all goes well, I should have the opportunity to follow many dreams, and not just one.
  • “Salary” does not mean more money than “wage.”
  • Almond butter makes for a tasty salad dressing when mixed with sesame oil, Bragg’s, agave and lime juice.

  • Tofu and chicken taste awesome together. I’m still a carnivore with the soul of a vegetarian.
  • Eating does not have to be complicated. Just simple foods eaten when hungry, with an occasional piece of sumthin’ to make my tastebuds happy.
  • I need to stop being who people expect me to be, and start being who I want to be.

Question of the Day: What did you learn this month?

  1. I always have the “I still have a lot to learn” thought :)

I need to learn more about this peanut butter hummus, that sounds interesting!

  2. Honesty is the best policy, unless of course the answer to a question is “Why YES, your butt DOES look big in that!” :-D

Yes, PB hummus? Come talk to me!!

I learned that sometimes I’m hungry for no reason and other times I should be starving but I’m not :-/ Go figure.

  3. Ahh those oats look so good! And I’m so with you on the “working in the field your heart desires” thing. This month, I learned–well I realized that there are a lot of people out there that have problems MUCH larger than my own, and I should do what I can to help them. So I’ve started planning volunteer opportunities and getting clothes/toys to donate for the less fortunate :)

  4. What a great list! This month I learned…hmm…that I can run long distances if I want to! And that experimenting in the kitchen is ok. I also learned, well, that some of my food/body-image “demons” are still hanging out in my brain, and I need to be kind and patient with myself as I work to get them the heck out of there :-)

  5. Those are great things to learn!

This month I learned that holidays can be a good thing and don’t have to mean overeating. :)

  6. I love these posts. I feel like I am learning as you learn! :D

  7. what a great list of things you learned!! amen sista.
i totally agree with all of them!
    pb hummus?! YUMMAY

  8. PB hummus AND dark choc M&Ms…wow girl, I love the way you think :)

  9. Ok, so due to you always talking about putting M&M’s in your oatmeal, I TRIED IT. And OMGZZZZ so good, you genius lady!

    • Haha, I love ho the candy coating breaks down a little bit so they get lightly crispy. Not to mention, the colours melt all over the oats which makes it more pretty to look at :)

  10. Amen, amen, amen, amen!! Minus the tofu part. You are learning a lot Susan, and me too, by proxy :) Have a good day babe! xoxo

  11. What delicious looking oats, yummy! x x

  12. Great post, lil lady! Sounds like you learned a lot about yourself this month! And you didn’t already know pb tasted good with everything?! :-P

  13. Oh my word those oats do look like the best bowl of oats ever!

And peanut butter hummus?? I’m definitely checking out that recipe!

  14. I really want to be able to find hummus, b/c I hear so much about it, but I’m not really sure where to find it. I have a Walmart, and another grocery store- Dillons (Kroger), in the town that I live in, but I’m not sure if they have it or not. All your foods look really good!

  15. This month I learned that most of the time the things you stress about the most end up being no big deal! I learned the relaxing benefits of having someone else do your mani/pedi. I learned that a gluten free diet really does make me feel better as sad as that makes me! I learned that you shouldn’t be scared of relatives that didn’t like you as a kid because the dynamics have completely changed now!

  16. Love your list! You learned a lot :D

I can’t wait to hear about your personal trainer training!

Chocolate and oats with nut butter is classic.

  17. susannnnn….i pretty much loved every lesson learned, especially the ones having to do with peanut butter and following your dreams!

i am so excited for what the next year holds for you. hugs and love.

  18. I’ve learned that I have the same food processor as you (which reminds me that I have a zuchinni hummus recipe that I intend to try before my zuchinnis go bad…)

I’ve also learned that I need to get back on the wagon with consistent, whole-hearted workouts and clean eating. I feel myself getting a little soft now that I’m not forced to see myself in a bathing suit every day.

  19. gah i love this list! i was grinning the whole time i read it! “Workouts are only as good as the effort you put in.” YES YES. and i too need better lighting! i learned that switching up workouts is a good thing :)

  20. “Carnivore with the soul of a vegetarian” Agh! I can relate to that one for sure!
Love this list :) I’ll have to try the salad dressing (one of these days when I get a kitchen again!)

  21. I love this whole list!
I love month to month goals and learnings.

Its like we always have something to learn! About everything!
