5:30 am – Alarm goes off. I once again frantically leap out of bed, wondering where I am, what day it is, and why on earth such noise is blaring before the sun is up.
5:43 am – Guzzle back an iced coffee, wishing I hadn’t run out of both stevia and almond milk. Black iced coffee is not that great. No-grocery week is rough.
6:00 am – Smile at all the regulars. The chick who runs on the treadmill with an army backpack, the grunting man on the elliptical, and even the creepy bald guy who only speaks to women under the age of 25.
6:10 am – Decide to change my usual warm-up interval routine by not only pyramid-ing the resistance level, but the recovery time between the usual 1-minute sprints. It’s awesome. And sweaty.
6:30 am – I think step-ups are harder on my hands than on my legs. Holding 25 lbs dumbbells is not easy.
6:34 am – Why is this called an arnold press? Did Arnold himself invent it? I wonder what the Susan Press would be? A badly written press release?
6:44 am – Plié squats are awkward to do in front of the mirror when you’re surrounded by men. Just sayin’
7:12 am – NINE PUSH UPS!! ON MY TOES!!! BOO TO THE YAAAAA.
7:38 am – My new skincare regimen makes me feel like a weirdo when I slather baby oil on in the gym change room. I swear I’m not a stripper.
8:11 am: Cottage cheese is thisclose to overtaking yogurt as my favourite dairy.
8:14 am – See 5:45 am
8:17 am – Goofy grin as I eat breakfast at my desk and read through all the blog comments from last night :D
830 am-1030 am – work, twitter, work, twitter, work, gmail, facebook, google reader, work, twitter
10:31 am – SNACK
12:03pm – Lunch with the girls. I eat my protein powder + peanut butter sandwich with applesauce and cheese. We talk about boy drama. Boys are dumb.
1:07 pm – Someone else calls about the apartment. Feeling hopeful I may actually find a subletter for the rest of my lease so I can move to Toronto. Double score!
2:12 pm – I think I’m hungry, and I know ‘I’m bored. Snack!
2:22 pm – Feel the need to create a Deb phone comparison shot. That’s 130 calories of pure chocolate covered air. Actually, that’s not even chocolate. It’s a dates with cocoa powder!
3:14 pm – Send off a whack of completed assignments. Feels good :)
3:51 pm – Stomach growling. Shit.
4:27 pm – Boot it outta there to rush home and make food ASAP. Hungrybitchface is setting in.
4:47 pm – Person scheduled to view my apartment wants to come early. Fabulous. I can gnaw my arm off while showing her my messy closet.
5:14 pm – Um, selling a person on the fact that the bedroom is in the living room is hard. It’s called a “swinging bachelorette pad!” Helloooo!
5:31 – Finally, supper is simmering on the stove thanks to this guy:
5:44 pm – Sit down to a bowl of Wolfgang Puck’s Hearty Vegetable soup with quinoa, shrimp and broccoli cooked in.
5:58 pm – Munch on a piece of dark chocolate that always sneaks the camera’s eye. A must-have after dinner! (and sometimes lunch. And breakfast)
6:42 pm – Get sucked into watching old indie rock videos from the 1990s on You Tube. Reminisce about how great music used to be and wonder what ever happed to The Wedge on Much Music.
7:14 pm – Rock out to this gem of a video. Written about my hometown :)
7:22 pm – Shit. I’m late. Again.
7:46 pm – Meet up with the gals from work to see an original play put on by the university I work for.
8:22 pm – They’re cooking. On stage. Not just anything, but ham & eggs! I want a breakfast sandwich like nobody’s business.
9:02 pm – Almost moved to tears. Who knew my school had such theatre talent??
9:48 pm – Tuck in to the same thing I eat every. single. night. now. Chocolate protein pudding with chocolate chips and sprinkles. There is no secret to this pudding. Just tasty whey powder with water added until it’s thick and sticky.
10:10 pm – Blog this exact sentence. Whoa. Mind blowing.
10:20 pm – Get my clothes and lunch ready for tomorrow, set out my cycling shorts for spin class.
10:32 pm – Put on my new shea butter, take my antihistamines, and hit the hay. Ready for a deep sleep so I can start the whole process over again!
Question of the Day: What was the highlight of your Thursday? Mine was the play! Doing toe push ups comes in at a close second though ;)
Happy Waffle Wednesday friends!!
Topped with some almond butter, frozen strawberries and sugar-free syrup. Yummzzz. Although, it kinda makes me miss fresh berries. Remember when strawberries were less than $5 a pint?? Those were the days…
Today was my rest day from the gym, which meant my hunger was out of control! Body needs the fuel to repair itself from all that stress I put it though ;) Morning snack came early with a homemade PB&J protein bar.
I didn’t quite make it to lunch though, I broke into my second snack at 10:30.
Lunch was something different for me – a yogurt mess!
I only ever have these for breakfast or a snack, but it made for a decent lunch! With the yogurt was also cottage cheese, peach mango flavoured protein powder, cashew butter and homemade granola. Surprisingly satisfying. Thumbs up yog mess :)
I then rushed home to furiously clean my apartment for my lunch break. Someone was supposed to come look at it at 6 o’clock, but shortly before I got off work, they cancelled! Boo-urns. I have someone else coming tomorrow though, so at least it wasn’t all for nothing I guess…
It did leave me more time to EAT when I came home :)
Paired with a real hamburger on an english muffin. Topped with hummus, hot sauce and swiss cheese.
All about the numbers?
Bloggers. How many of you out there obsessively check your page views, website hits, and clicks?
I also yammer to my IRL friends about how I never check my blog stats. For me it’s the same as the scale: why let a number dictate my self-worth!
Bingo. When I first started blogging at Trying for a Tri over a year ago, I would check that WordPress stats page everyday, and feel awful because I wasn’t getting any readers. I didn’t feel good enough, or entertaining enough, or informative enough. It made me question my self worth. I let it control my emotions. A popular day for page views could lift my spirits, and in turn a low day with no comments would bum me out.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped caring. I decided I would take that daily “stat check” out of my morning routine. I started writing what I wanted to write about, and not what I thought others wanted to hear.
When people ask me how many readers I have, I can give them a ballpark, but I don’t really know. What I do know, is that the people I have met through blogging are amazing. I feel SO lucky to have had the opportunity to communicate with people through my blog, e-mail, comments, Twitter, and even real life.
The numbers don’t really mean much in the end. That one e-mail I get from a girl saying I helped her with an eating disorder, or a girl who says my blog helped inspire her to do a race, that’s worth it.
So my bloggie friends, I just wanted to remind you to not let those numbers dictate your self-worth. I’m telling you straight up, readers or no readers, you are worth it!! Keep writing!
x’s and o’s <3
Happeee Weeeekend!!!! Loved reading your responses on my last post. Man, a lot of us used to hate some tasty foods!! Some popular ones included brussel sprouts, beets, mushrooms, oatmeal, mustard, bananas and olives. I honestly can’t believe some of you hated bananas!! That was probably my fave food as a kid :)
Okay. Moving on!
As promised, I was up at 5:30am and ready to work out! After a hazy few moments, I strapped on my heart rate monitor, lululemon, and slammed back an iced coffee with PB+wasa. Decided to go for a long-ish treadmill run today. It was a good time!!
Treadmill – 1% incline
This workout is pretty easy for the first half, and then gets really hard towards the end. It’s nice to just take it easy on the treadmill sometimes though, and not push my max like I’m always doing in speed sessions. Plus, I put some stellar new tunes on the iPod to run to :)
I went straight to work from the gym, so I packed myself a little brekkie:
Yogurt mixed with peach-mango protein powder and some homemade granola.
Then at 12:30 I got to leave work!! Yayyyy!!! Ran some errands and came home to a fabulous lunch.
Same salad as last night. It was that good.
- green pepper
I’ve been eating a lot of big salads lately! It’s solely because I’ve started buying giant bags of greens, and I’m more inclined to eat mass quantities because I don’t want it to go bad. In other words, not a bad way of forcing myself to eat more salads ;)
Then I hit the road to Moncton. Snacked on a peanut butter chocolate Simply Bar in the car.
Recycled photo – the Canon Rebel is hard to manoeuvre on the highway :P
My mommy already had a wonderful dinner on the go when I arrived home.
A giant bag of dark chocolate squares. I just had one, but clearly this bag is dangerous.
The Kashi Fruit & Grain granola bars just made their way to Canada, and I haven’t tried the pumpkin pie flavour yet. Suh-weet!
It was pretty good!! I love pumpkin spice, but I think the dark chocolate coconut may still be my favourite. I looked at the ingredients and it looks like the topping is based with dates??
Okay, now on to even more fun things… Flashback Friday!!!
Flashback Friday is a fun lil’ thing Janetha cooked up to show us bloggers pre-blog days. They make for some fun posts and a way to get to know us “beyond the blog.”
Since I’m home this particular Flashback Friday, and seeing as tomorrow is my bee-day, I thought it would be fun to flashback on my life!
To truly start at the beginning, here is my mom very preggers with me on Christmas 1985.
Actually, my mom looks kinda apprehensive here too!
Seriously guys. I had ankle rolls.
As the baby of the family, I may have been a little spoiled. To this day I still insist I am blissfully unaware of that fact ;)
I have also always loved food.
Some things never change.
My mom tells me I was a very active child. I would run and run and then just crash.
Um, again, some things never change :P
Oh yeah, did you hear? I was a blonde.
My hairdresser tells me I’m still a dark blonde. Pfft. Brunettes have more fun.
And while my mom may have done most of the work 24 years ago, I guess I should give some props to my dad too.
And one more photo I stumbled upon that I had to throw in for the FBF creator herself.
Basil the Basset Hound. He passed away many moons ago, but he was one helluva dog.
Now it’s time to go gossip about Hollywood stars on the Haiti fundraiser with my mom. Tomorrow’s plans are gym, brunch with dad, shopping, cake baking, sushi feast, then cake eating!! Can’t wait!!! See ya tomorrow!
