Blogger Interview Series – Sophia

Hiiiii!!!! Hope everyone is enjoying this long weekend. And I especially hope it’s a long weekend for you :)

I am still MIA what with all the moving madness that is going on. I’ve got plenty of excited things lined up for the weekend which I will be back with soon :)

Today’s blogger in the Blogger Interview Series (aka “Susan is Busy and is Making Other Bloggers Do Her Work For Her Series”) is Sophia from Burp and Slurp.

Sophia is another journalism student, and another fantastic writer. I began reading her blog a year ago while she was trying to overcome an eating disorder while living in Signapore. Now she is a student in Los Angeles, and currently traveling through Asia (she was last spotted in Korea!). This time around, she is a much healthier version of herself, burping and slurping through some of the tastiest dishes the countries have to offer.

Ohyes, and she has some of the most creative recipes I’ve ever seen on the internets.

1. Quick! Describe your blog in 6 words!

Slurping Good Eats, Burping with Satisfaction (food and life)

2. How did you come up with your blog name?

I slurp, therefore I burp. Burp and Slurp sounds better than Slurp and Burp, don’t you think?

3. What attracted you to blogging?

I first started blogging because I needed an outlet from my eating disordered schedule and obsessions. I also needed something to hold myself accountable during recovery. Plus, being able to call yourself a blogger…that’s cool. ;-)

4. What surprised you about blogging?

That it would become such a huge and natural part of my life: from the real friendships I’ve made within the blogging community, to the obsession about good lighting at every restaurant I visit.

Also, I would see random things, and suddenly think about a certain blogger. For example, hot sauce = Biz (Biggest Diabetic Loser). Avocado = Abby (I Have Issues). Runny eggs = Brandi (Bran Appetit). Audrey Hepburn = Christina (Dinner at Christina’s). Waffles = You! Oats = well, practically every single health blogger out there, I suppose, haha.

5. What do you do for content ideas?

Hm. I literally, just stare at my food pictures. And then, I type. It kind of just flows out–whatever I’m thinking at that moment, somehow interacts with the food I’m looking at to inspire that day’s content.

6. Blogging is a big time commitment – what makes it worth it to you?

It’s not just a commitment…it’s an investment. Honestly, the time I spend blogging is minimal compared to the benefits I reap: my own personal growth, the community I share with the other wonderful bloggers out there, the vibrant inspirations and passions interflowing within…it’s something money can’t buy, ever.

7. What hobbies did you have before you started blogging?

I love writing. And talking about myself. And reading. And art. So, do the math, and that equals blogging.

8. What is one secret you’ve thus far conveniently kept off your blog?

Well, Susan…there is this one secret…is what you thought I’d say, didn’t you? Ha, nice try, but not gonna fall for this, my dear. ;-p

9. What do your friends and family think of your blogging habits?

At first, my parents just indulged me. They sighed and forlornly watched their food get cold while I tried to take shots in good angles. They thought it was just a "hobby." They certainly didn’t think I’d continue blogging in college. But they now are as enthusiastic about my blog as I am. I suspect it started from the day I emailed them a post I wrote about how wonderful they are….they read the overwhelmingly sweet comments of my readers, and instantly warmed up. Flattery will get you anywhere.

10. What other blogger inspires you?

Don’t you mean…what other bloggerS? A lot of bloggers inspire me in different ways. We are all different, and we all have something to share. Just take a look at my answer to #4. All the bloggers I listed are quite different. I like to read from a variety of bloggers, whose interests, diets, and lifestyle ranges widely. So I really can’t pinpoint just ONE blogger that inspires me.

But I’ll let you know that the bloggers who I find truly inspiring all have a deep sense of genuine, balanced passion about something. Nothing is more attractive than true, healthy passion.

Thank you Sophia!! I will be back tomorrow with a recap of what’s been happening since my arrival in Toronto! Se ya then :)
