Mother-Daughter Weekend

Hello friends!! First and foremost, thank you for the response to my last post on depression and learning to love yourself. It can often be a tough subject to tackle, but it’s one I feel like I just have to talk about. People are always saying I’m brave to be so honest. But these are just things I feel like I need to put out there. Plain and simple (just like me! :P ).

As I mentioned yesterday, I went out with the gals from work. We went to enjoy some jazz at a local pub. Good times were had – but late times! I was in bed way past my usual old-lady time and did not want to get up to exercise this morning. For once my body was just like “No way Susan.”

So, I made breakfast in bed instead :)

Smoked salmon and laughing cow cheese on an english muffin with a side of grapes. I had to toast the english muffin under the broiler in my oven since my toaster oven is nothing but a scorched heap :(

Now normally I feel like crap on days I don’t work out. I get really sluggish at work and miss that usual pep in my step. But today I felt awesome. Even more – my cold is finally gone! I didn’t get much sleep mind you, but I think not putting my body through another workout gave it the extra energy it needed to rid itself of my illness. All I needed was to sloooow down to allow my immune system to do its job. Don’t know why that’s so damn hard sometimes!

Work was uneventful today. I’m doing lots of web work these days, which is good for my work experience resume :D

Dinner was, ahem, more ham. I’m going to turn into a pig soon.

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup egg whites
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • 110g ham
  • brussels sprouts
  • broccoli

Oink :P This was protein-packed, loved it!

Then a visitor arrived!!!

My mommy!! She’s come to spend the weekend with me :D

And look what she brought!

Dove sensitive skin soap, fish oil supplements and ground flaxseed all for the Fatty February challenge. Thanks mom <3

Evening snack was something that’s becoming an all-time favourite for me:

Yogurt, protein powder (peach mango flavour) and coconut chia granola. I’m running low on my granola stash, must make some more this weekend!!

So plans for this weekend include:

  • Step class with mom Saturday morning
  • Showing my mom where I work!
  • Buying new running shoes and a gym bag (yes, I don’t own a gym bag)
  • Dinner out
  • Painting my scorched cupboards
  • Making some Vegan White Chocolate Chocolate-Peanut Butter Cups
  • And lots of other fun stuff!

And with that, it’s 10:19 and time for this girl to go. to. bed. My mom is going to stay up later than me. This is my life. :P

See ya tomorrow!

Question of the Day: In honour of Flashback Friday, what’s your favourite “mom memory?” Mine is probably the time my mom and I went to Mexico together to visit my sister. While she was at school we spent our days at the same little restaurant eating tortilla chips, drinking Corona and listening to salsa bands :)

  1. Have fun! Your mom looks lovely and has kindness in her face.

  2. Your mom looks like someone famous to me and I can’t figure out who it is. I was thinking maybe the lady from Desperate Housewives Katherine- who is crazy on the show but also gorgeous so it’s definitely a compliment haha. I’m glad you felt better after taking the morning off from the gym :) Sometimes that is very necessary!

  3. That’s so cute that your mom came to visit! My mom is totally my best friend. My parents separated when I was still an infant so until my mom met and later married my stepdad when I was 9 it was just me and my mommy =) I remember so much of that time – watching tv together in bed a night (yea I slept in her bed until my stepdad came around – and even when he first did, couldn’t have helped much having an annoying daughter who would not sleep alone lol), our little food rituals, vacations she took me on. My mom is the most amazing woman – scratch that PERSON – that I’ve ever met. I hope one day to be 1/8 the woman she is!

  4. Enjoy your weekend, Susan!
I have to say, both you and your mom have RADIANT skin! Glowing beauties!

The Dove. Is that what you use? I have been in a 10 yr search to rid myself of my nearly $40 per bottle of lancome face cleanser and EVERY time i run out, i use drugstore stuff, break out, and go back to the lancome. Does the Dove work for you? Please tell me it does and i am off to purchase it tomorrow!

    • Hey Averie! I don’t use Dove on my face – I use Spectro Gel (which is like the Canadian version of Cetaphil). Anything else either dries me out or makes me break out too!

  5. Favorite mom mem: When she came to visit me while I was in treatment, far away from home. She flew in and when she walked in the door I immediately started crying. I love my mom so much!

P.S. your salmon muffin looks AMAZING! I have got to try that!!

    Have a great weekend!

  6. Have a great time with your mom :)

  7. Have a fun weekend with your mom!

  8. Your mom ROCKS! *hug*

My fav mom memory is actually taking her to a strip club for her bachelorette party when I was 17! (We were in Germany!) It was a blast and we got her a lap dance on stage!

THEN for her retirement, my sister and I took her to another strip club and bought her a private lap dance! hahaaa…. Love my momma!

  9. Awwwwwww that photo of you and ya mum is soooooo nice! My favorite thing to do with my mum is go out for dogs walk just me and her, she lives in Ireland so when I go to stay there thats what we do, dog walk and chat love it!

Have fun with your mama x x

  10. So fun that you and your mom do step together!! I see the resemblance with you and Mama Balance.

My fave memory with my mom spans the first year I went away to school. I came home once a month roughly and we would go to an outdoor marketplace in ORange country and just shop our brains out and eat yummy hot dogs (really bratwurst etc). Good times, those were. I lived for the weekends. In fact I developed a strange fear of flying- only it was while I was flying home, but I couldn’t have cared less if the plane went down en route back to school. :-P

  11. Madeline - Greens and Jeans

I love my mom oh so much! Just reading about you getting to spend time with yours makes me want to give my madre a call! One of my favorite memories is when we ran our first half marathon together and the folks at the finish line let me go back and run across the finish line with her!

  12. Hello lovely lady! I just made a batch of your no-bake protein bars and whacked them in the fridge – excited to see how they turn out!
    Enjoy your mom-daughter time!!

  13. mmm some of my fave eats in this post! smoked salmon on english muffin.smoothie with chia granola. naturally. and a big ass pile of veggies! yum.

You and your momma are so cute! I love all the trips my mom and I have taken to phoenix. we always talk on the way up. and we’ve been on so many either just the two of us or with a couple of my friends, its always so relaxing and chill.
