[insert clever title here]

Good/long/busy day at Starbucks today! First, I am so happy I racked up my credit card yesterday with the purchase of new shoes. A pair of comfy shoes makes a world of difference when you’re on your feet for nine hours.

Secondly, can I just say how nice it is to laugh and joke with people at work again? Reporting was a social job, in that I spoke to a lot of people. But most of those people didn’t really want to be talking to a me (or wanted to too much!). Gabbing with customers is a lot more fun :)

No workout before work today. I started at 8am and knew it would be a long and active enough day without it. Rolled out of bed and celebrated Wednesday appropriately :)

With waffles!

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup egg whites
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 tbsp ground flax
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • cinnamon & pumpkin spice
  • 1/3 cup frozen blueberries

All blended up, and poured on the (greased!) waffle iron with the whole blueberries. I like to rip up the waffles and eat them with my hands. Utensils are for people with roommates ;)

Once I got to work, I made a triple tall, 2 pump sugar-free caramel Americano. Ie, how could I get maximal caffeine in me in the least amount of time possible? :P I also had a Carrot Cake Clif bar as my morning snack. Notable, because I hadn’t had one in a while and I forgot how delicious they were!

Lunch, while studying the different kinds of interval training in the cafe.

Sandwich with sundried tomato tuna, laughing cow cheese, tomato, onion, sprouts and and orange. I’ve already had two women try to hire me as their personal trainer. I’m flattered they already have so much confidence in me – but I’m not certified yet!!! Hopefully they’re still looking in Feb/Mar ;)

Supper was a burger and “fries.”

101_1025

A real beef hamburger (frozen patties, just “meh”) but the “fries” are roasted green beans in salt and chili powder. Eaten, again, with my hands and dipped in ketchup. Reminded me of string fries!

Dessert came a couple hours later. Yogurt and chocolate whey protein powder.

I’m still kinda peckish though. May have one of my “fat bomb” Peanut ButterNut Squash muffins before bed. I think I’m too low on fat today and it’s affecting my satiety levels. That and I have no idea how many extra calories I burned running around Starbucks for nine hours today. I’m tempted to wear my heart rate monitor, but I also don’t want to expose my Polar watch to the damage that may happen there.

And look what finally came in the mail today!!!

101_1030

Yesssssss!!! I’ve been listening to Jillian’s podcasts for months now during my gym visits. She’s grown on me a lot. There’s so much more to her than what you see on the Biggest Loser, and she is seriously knowledgeable. Anyways, I wanted some videos that would get my heart pumping on the days I’m stuck indoors because of snow storms this winter. I thought the short strength workouts in 30 Day Shred would pair nicely with a cardio session on my bike trainer (when I finally get it set up). And Brie recommended No More Trouble Zones as a full video workout. Can’t wait to try them out!!

Last but not least, I finally got a response from Larabar! You may (or may not) remember my review of the Peanut Butter & Jelly flavour. Several of you noticed my Canadian bar had refined sunflower oil listed as the last ingredient, whereas it’s not on the U.S. bar at all. Here’s what they said in the e-mail:

The ingredients are the same in both bars.  The refined sunflower oil isn’t an added ingredient, but is used as a processing aid.  The labeling is due to the differences in the labeling requirements for each country. Canada is required to declare most processing aids while the U.S. is not.

So it seems Canada’s labelling laws differ from the U.S. quite a bit!

Question of the Day: What’s your favourite exercise video? I actually really enjoy the “10 minute Solution” videos. They’re pretty easy, but great for times when you just want a little bit of activity. “Yoga X” is the best yoga DVD I’ve tried so far. And I feel silly saying it, but “Turbo Jam” is a pretty decent workout, despite how ridiculous it comes across. I can’t wait to hear your suggestions!

I’ll be back tomorrow with my tips for working out in the morning. See ya then!

  1. I need some tips for working out in the morning. I just can’t get out of bed. Although, I don’t so much mind working out after work and get it done anyway so I”m not bothered by it.

Glad you got the DVDs! No More Trouble Zones definitely isn’t heavy lifting, but it makes me sore and gets my heart pumping nicely.

You’ve officially got me hooked on breakfast cookies, by the way. I’ve been craving them the last few days when I’ve been too busy/lazy to make them the night before!

  2. Oh, 8am! So it’s not that bad, compared to the 5 am shifts my friend had to endure during her bout at starbucks.
I don’t really like that caramel syrup…I find it doesn’t bring much flavor. Have you tried the hazelnut one? It’s great :-)

Ho. Exercise videos are great when the weather is crappy like this. I should get some…and ask my dad to join me. Hee hee! That will be one great fat entertainment!

  3. What is that bread on your lunch sandwich?? It looks divine!!

I love the Firm Workouts. I did those so much last winter. Cardio overdrive and Hardcore fusion were the best because they used weights and did cardio.
I tried the 30-day shred, but just wasn’t that into it. I don’t like the start-stop so much.

    • Funny you should notice my bread. I just switched from packaged bread to the bakery stuff they make in-store. SO much better. I don’t know why I was buying that factory junk for so long…

  4. those waffles look SOO GREAT!! i love exercise videos when i dont feel like going outside..haha..i do exercisetv.com.. love it!

  5. 9 hours on your feet = definite extra hunger. I’ve found the same thing since I started waitressing. I’m not hungry so much while I’m working, but when I get home, I’m pretty peckish for much of the evening.

I need to look into buying a waffle maker. I always drool over yours!

  7. Love sprouts on sammies. I underutilize them!

Gosh, I haven’t done a workout video in about a thousand years. Literally the only time I used to do them was on a laptop (well, the dvd was, not me!) when we traveled. But now I just make stuff up.

Problem is our “tv” room is TINY and narrow- no room at all to move around. None. :-(

PS I love to eat with my hands too. Feels liberating! :-)

  8. Ahh that’s kind of scary about the US and Canadas labeling laws!! I wonder what else is in the food I buy??? lol.

I tried one of Jillian Micheals dvds yesterday it was pretty good!

  9. “Utensils are for people with roommates”

LOL. So true. I eat everything out of bowls with spoons sitting on my sofa these days.

K, workout videos. I have never done one before but I was collecting coupons from my soy milk and when i went to the website to order the mystery gift, all that was left was workout videos. So now I have a dance DVD. The weather is COLD here and crazy damp so I haven’t been doing my usual walks so i also ordered a Jillian Michaels DVD- haven’t tried either yet but am excited to!

Interesting about the lara bars. I’ve noticed discrepencies on a few nutrition labels (Libby’s pumpkin!). Crazy Americans with their laws :P

Oh, and the banana jam was mushy like jam, not creamy like apple butter. Oh so amazing. I’m going to see if I can find it again- if so, expect a jar!

    • Keep me updated on what you think of the DVDs! And the banana jam situation. Bytheway, I just said “banana jam” out loud, and it’s really fun to say ;)

  10. I have the 30 Minute Shred DVD. I think you’ll really like it.

What is your schedule for Starbucks – do you work full time hours during the day?

  11. hmmm what does “triple tall” mean? haha like extra extra small? but i luuuuurv me some shoos free hazelnut!

glad it went well today. get those clients goin on girl ;)

    • Haha, “triple tall” means three shots of espresso instead of the usual one that comes in that size. Trying to get the most caffeine in the least amount of liquid ;) Except today it gave me a HUGE head rush.

  12. This may be a total disaster, but put your polar watch around your ankle maybe? Just a suggestion – I have no idea if it’ll work or not, because I don’t use a HR monitor. lol :)

I’m also wondering what triple tall means.

  13. I love exercise videos. I have close to 100. My favorites are Shapes Bikini Body Camp series and the really old Firm videos, especially the ones with Tracy Long in them. I hate the new ones though.

  14. LOVE Jillian. I’m obsessed with both of those workout dvds. When I can’t make myself get up and go to the gym, which is more often than I like to admit, she always kicks my butt.

  15. ohhh good to know on the larabar feedback – i never would have thought that would have been the difference!

yay for new jobs, new clients and new dvds!

    have a good one dear!

  16. I’m not surprised the labelling laws are different in the USA and Canada- but I figured ingredients like oil would be consistent even if it is a “processing aid”.

I’m glad you’re liking your new job!

  17. I love listening to Jillian’s podcasts. They are so motivating!

  18. I am so happy that you are loving the new Starbucks gig! Having a good time definitely makes the hours speed by!
I am very sad that I ended up selling my Turbo Jam and Tae Bo vids. They were so much fun!

  19. Lynn at The Actors Diet

i’m planning on ordering jillian’s shred from netflix so i have it when i’m traveling over the holidays. love the green bean fries!

  20. Seriously, your waffles are what make me want to go buy a waffle maker! I was a waffle eating machine as a little kid and always tore them up and ate em with my fingers too.:)

Can I just say I wish you were my Starbucks barista/cashier/drive through greeter?! hahaa

And finally, I got your tweet about the lara bar thing, and kind of made me mad. Who knew there’d be ingredients in the things I ate, that weren’t listed?! I guess I should move to Canada. ;)

  21. How do you manage to not get any lumps when you mix whey protein into stuff? Even when I use a regular blender or a hand blender I end up with gross lumps.

    • Hmm, maybe it’s the type of protein powder you use? I use ISO Femme whey powder, I’ve heard of other kinds getting lumpy. I kinda like the taste of protein powder anyways, so I don’t mind the lumps ;)

  22. yum that sandwich looks good~nice call on the bread switch. i dont use workout DVDs much but i do like the shred. i am curious about p90x. but it is pricey! glad you have a nice social scene at star beezies! oh and i eat waffles with my hands too.. and i have roomies.. ;)
    xoxo

  23. Hey lady, did you put up a new headshot of you? If you didnt, sorry my bad for not noticing…but if you did, it’s suuuper cute!!!!! love!!!! it!

your dessert of choc whey and chips looks so good!

We’re off for a trip. In like 4 hrs. If I am not as good with my commenting the next few weeks, please forgive :) You know Im reading and loving you..always!

  24. LOVE Jillian. I’m like seriously her biggest fan. The husband says I have a problem. :P

She does know her stuff though and she is so much more than just what you see on Biggest Loser.

  25. I swear that thinking of post titles is the hardest part about blogging!

Sundried tomato tuna sounds REALLY good!

Those Jillian videos kick my @ss. I have not gone through either one 100%. Maybe hearing about your workouts will motivate me to get through them!

  26. I’m one of those weird people who caffine puts to sleep so if I drank one of those I’d probably be fast asleep in 10 minutes. I only have coffee at night. :)

I’m doing Turbo Jam and love them. It’s been a week and while I haven’t lost any weight, there are a pair of dents below my ribs where a fat roll used to be.
