An Ode To Oatmeal

I am a cruel blogger, I know. Every Wednesday, I share delicious looking waffles with you knowing that many of you can’t make them yourselves. There is a shortage of waffle makers in kitchens across the globe. Where is the government lobby for this??

So this week, I am sharing another delicious breakfast that you can make at home! All you need is a microwave or a pot, a love for carbohydrates, and a little creativity ;)

My friends, today we are talking oatmeal. The following is an assortment of some of my most notable bowls to date. There is a vast array of combos you can do and I hope these only ignite ideas of your own! Be forewarned – I need protein in my oats to satisfy my belly.

As a side note, the above photo seems other-worldly to me. That majestic river and greenery used to be the view out my window in New Brunswick. Now I step out the door and am assaulted by noise and traffic. Ahhhh, city livin’ ;)

Onward to the hot creamy carbfest!

Don’t Try This At Home Oats

    100_8337

When attempting to make steel cut oats overnight in your ginormous slow-cooker, I suggest making a LARGE batch. Smaller bathes apparently just get crusty. Unless you want oat crackers.

    Sweet n’ Salty Oats

    101_1504

Rolled oats cooked on the stove top with water and protein powder, then topped with chocolate chips, peanut butter and pretzels.

    Oat Bran

A much creamier version of oatmeal and quick cooking!

    Fluffernutter Oats

Marshamallow fluff + peanut butter. Or in this case, made better with chocolate peanut butter.

    Oats Topped With Oats

Creamy custard oats topped with crunchy granola and molasses. In this case, Beek’s coconut chia granola.

    • coconut

Reduces morning sweats that may occur when attempting to eat hot oatmeal and drink hot coffee at the same time.

Like a finer cut and faster cooking steel-cut oatmeal. This is Bob’s Red Mill.

    Oats In A Jar

If you hate the hard bottom part of a nut butter jar like me, this solves your problem. Pouring hot oatmeal into a glass jar melts it and mixes it in!

    Oatmeal & Yogurt Parfait

Top oatmeal with fresh or frozen fruit.

Add yogurt, cereal, nuts or nut butter.

    Cream of Wheat

Okay, technically not oatmeal but a wonderful hot breakfast packed full of iron!

Welcome to autumn bloggie friends! It may not be waffles, but I hope you get to enjoy some warm breakfasts this week :)

Question of the Day: What’s your favourite way to eat oatmeal? I like it custard-style with rolled oats, cashew butter, maple syrup, dates and coconut!

    1. You are an oatmeal artist! I love how you include a little something “fun” in all your bowls. Pretzels in oatmeal are glorious!

    2. Oatmeal is the devil’s vomit.

I like cold oats in breakfast cookies, thanks to your handy dandy video, though!

    3. Oats!!! My favorite!!

I scrolled down quick to find the fluff picture :D

I can’t decide on a favorite, as it keeps changing for me. Pumpkin oats with crystalized ginger is a favorite now. Of course, Fluff and PB is so awesome.

S’more oats is another great combo.

    4. Woah, that’s a lot of oats! I think the spicy ones are calling my name most – I haven’t had them in forever!

    5. I remember when my oats used to include brown sugar and banana. snoreeeee, I love all your combos =)

    6. Whoa. I haven’t had oatmeal for awhile, but I am trying some of these.

    7. I don’t like oats, but I wish I liked it half as much as you :)

    8. omg this took you..more than 5 mins :)

      they all look great!

i once made butterfinger oats with leftover butterfingers from halloween last year.

or my overnight chocolate brownie protein oats (recipe in my tab)…freeze them, SUPER good, very brownie like if u use choc protein powder!

      xoxo

    9. omg eveything looks so yummy,..

    10. These are some of the most outrageous, awesome, cool oats on the net! Plus the candy and sprinkles make them pretty :)

    11. My boyfriend is the biggest oatmeal fan so I’m always looking for recipes to make for him. These are look delicious and I’m especially interested in the birthday oats. :)

    12. Let me share my fave: Matcha (powdered green tea) oats. Awesomeness.

I Lol-ed at your “don’t try this at home” oats! hee hee!

    13. I love your oatmeal partfait – I’ve been recreating that ever since you blogged it! My current favourite is porridge with dates, cinnamon, chopped apple, a couple of egg whites mixed in and almond butter. Delicious! I also love adding chocolate protein powder and raspberries. yum x

    14. Loved this post! Makes me want to experiment more with my oats. But honestly… I am a very simple oats girl! My fave combo is rolled or steel cut oats cooked with almond milk with banana, chia seeds, vanilla, cinnamon and some kind of nut butter.

sometimes I go a little wild and add protein powder or an egg… or a bit of granola on top. oh my. ;)

    15. Susan these look great! I love oatmeal and eat it every morning, even in summer. My favorite combination is peanut butter and banana. However, I do eat them plan 9 times out of 10. Most people think I’m crazy but I make it with milk which makes it a creamer and gives it a slight nutty taste. I am going to have to try fluff in my oatmeal being that I have a huge batch of it in my fridge at the moment :)

    16. There’s not much I love more than oat creations…and all of these look amazing! The “oats topped with oats” and “don’t try this at home” ones made me laugh.

I’ve gotta try this marshmallow fluff that keeps popping up on your blog- can you just find it at the grocery store? I’ve never seen such a thing.

    17. I’m not a fan of hot oatmeal. I find them acceptible and dare I say even tasty with pumpkin and/or homemade cranberry sauce stirred in.

    18. My mom makes this crazy awesome cranberry sauce with walnuts every year around the holidays and it makes the best oatmeal topping ever.

    19. I know everyone out there is oat crazy, I like them but don’t love them. Don’t really have time to make them in the morning. I’m a toast girl, but after hearing of the Thrive Diet from you, I’ve been reading his book and trying to get away from all that bread and Kraft (gasp) peanut butter!

    20. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!! I do love me some oatmeal!

My favourite is with coconut butter stirred in so that it gets all melty and then add PB & Co Dark Chocolate Dreams with banana slices and coconut flakes!

      *drool*

    21. Holy oats! I love the birthday oats!! Sprinkles are my favorite. Mmmm ice cream and sprinkles. And I think I gotta try the sweet n salty oats.

    22. Wow … that is a whole lotta variety!

I like my oats with 1/4 cup all bran cooked in. Makes them extra fibrous.

    23. I just love all the things to do with oats! I was drooling over some of these. :D

    24. Savory oats rock. I also love the idea of sandwiching the toppings inside the layers of oatmeal. And sweet n’ salty oatmeal? Why haven’t I done that??

    25. love this post! it makes me want to run home and eat oats! all your bowls are always pretty~ but the birthday ones are probably the most fun. i need to make savory oats and custard oats soon. miss them both.

    26. I love that you make dessert oats! You’re a clever one, Susan. :) I like my oatmeal simple, usually. Just a little brown sugar or maple syrup drizzled over it. Although your bowls look so tempting, I might have to branch out!

    27. You are killing me with the candy + fluffernutter oats!

    28. Any which way I too am an addict but todays were AMAZING! Carob and vanilla joy!

      http://www.saladandsequins.com/2010/09/mule-almighty.html

      So good! x x

    29. I’ll take a candy oat bowl please!

Your bday oats makes me laugh :)

    30. Forgive me, but I had forgotten how truly fabulous your oat creations are. It was you who introduced me to custard oats! Seriously fab. Right now I love banana pumpkin protein oats with flax and pb!

    31. aayyye you make me crave oats more than kath. and that’s saying something.

    32. There have been multiple times I’ve come close to making custard oats and I can’t do it.

I sit there staring at my oats armed with an egg in my right hand. Inevitably I put the egg away.

For some reason I fear it will be gross. Maybe tomorrow will be the day. Maybe! ;)
